Static Multi-Latch installation styles
If you have any questions on how best to install a Multi-Latch to a particular structure, please e-mail Technical Support (photographs will help speed up any enquiry)
VERSATILE DESIGN FOR VARIED INSTALLATIONS
There are two main body styles: Standard and Tubular, and two main catch forms: Standard and Chain, the main differences and the advantages of each model are detailed below.
All locks, except the Dual, can be used with as many padlocks, or as few, as the user requires by using the pin blanking kits supplied with every unit. This process is simple, secure and reversible.
STANDARD BODY AND CATCH ON AN RHS FRAMED GATE
For RHS or box section frames Multi-Latch can be easily installed using M10 10mm (3/8″) dome-head cup-square bolts (coach or carriage bolts). A standard fitting template is supplied to ensure all the correct tolerances are observed during installation. We recommend that shear nuts rather than conventional nuts are used, however if conventional nuts are to be used the nuts should be welded in the tightened positions and the weld treated with zinc rich paint.
STANDARD MULTI-LATCH WITH BOLT-ON CATCH, MODELS 05-BC & 10-BC. FOR DOORS, GATES, CABINETS AND BARRIERS
This unit uses the bolt-on catch and is ideal for gates and cabinets. The body has 7 possible fixing points, while the catch carries 4 points. The fixing points are optimised for 10mm (3/8″) coach or carriage bolts (dome-head cup-squares). Fitting template and blanking kit for 4 positions included.
Multi-Latch can be bolted to outward opening doors using M10 10mm (3/8″) dome-head cup-square bolts (coach or carriage bolts). A standard fitting template Multi-Latch fitting template. is supplied to ensure all the correct tolerances are observed during installation. We recommend that only shear nuts are used. Standard Fitting Instructions can be accessed here.
05-BC STANDARD CATCH MULTI-LATCH
The diagram details the main dimensions of the standard 5 padlock unit. For ten padlock Multi-Latch (for model 10-BC add 150mm (5 7/8″) to the overall body length, all other dimensions remain the same. The catch is 12mm (1/2″) thick for both models.
These dimensions cannot be scaled up to 20 padlock Multi-Latch which due to expansion tolerances requires a larger catch.
Fitting instructions and blanking kit included.
For swinging barriers with timber, RHS or box section posts Multi-Latch can be easily installed using M10 10mm (3/8″) dome-head cup-square bolts (coach or carriage bolts). This fixing style is discussed in detail in our barrier installation page which includes a downloadable fixing detail. For ram-raiding resistant installations as many fixings points as possible should be utilised and High-Tensile bolts should be used.
STANDARD MULTI-LATCH WITH CHAIN CATCH, MODELS 05-CC & 10-CC. FOR GATES AND BARRIERS
This unit uses the stainless 8mm chain catch and is ideal for older gates, farm style gates, concrete posts, valves and securing plant. The body has 7 possible fixing points. The fixing points are optimised for 10mm (3/8″) coach or carriage bolts (dome-head cup-squares). Fitting template and blanking kit for 4 positions included.
Multi-Latch can be bolted gates and barriers using M10 10mm (3/8″) dome-head cup-square bolts (coach or carriage bolts). A standard fitting template Multi-Latch fitting template. is supplied to ensure all the correct tolerances are observed during installation but only the larger bracket details are used. We recommend that only shear nuts are used. Chain Catch Fitting Instructions can be accessed here. The chain is secured on either the other member to be restricted or on the same member as the lock body is installed to. The loose end of the chain should be retained by a bolt with heavy grade oversize washers or a u-bolt.
05-CC STANDARD CHAIN CATCH MULTI-LATCH
The diagram details the main dimensions of the standard 5 padlock unit with chain catch. For ten padlock Multi-Latch (for model 10-CC add 150mm (5 7/8″) to the overall body length, all other dimensions remain the same. The catch is 12mm (1/2″) thick for both models and the chain has 8mm thick links in high tensile stainless steel.
Fitting instructions and blanking kit included.
TUBULAR MULTI-LATCH WITH CHAIN CATCH, MODELS 05-TK & 10-TK. FOR GATES, BARRIERS AND VALVES
For Tubular Frames (CHS or pipe), where welding is not desirable, we supply the Tubular Multi-Latch. This Multi-Latch can be easily installed using the fitting kit supplied. The fitting kit includes a security back bracket and all M10 10mm (3/8″) dome-head cup-square bolts (coach or carriage bolts) and shear nuts required for a secure installation.
The unit clamps to tubular frames from 30mm (1 3/16″) to 70mm (2 3/4″) in diameter. This unit uses the stainless chain catch and is ideal for gates, barriers and control valves. Fitting instructions and blanking kit included.
05-TK TUBULAR MULTI-LATCH
The diagram details the main dimensions of the tubular 5 padlock unit. For ten padlock Multi-Latch (for model 10-TK add 150 mm to the overall body length, all other dimensions remain the same. The catch is 12mm (1/2″) thick for both models.

Multi-Latch Shield Fitting
All static Multi-Latch are compatible with Multi-Latch Shields. Our Shields can be fitted in seconds and protect all padlocks from bolt cropper attack.
The Shield protrudes out from the front of the Multi-Latch body to create adequate accommodation space for installing and removing padlocks. Shields are not however compatible with very long shackled padlocks. Partially this is because it is quite hard to install very long shackled padlocks inside the Shield but it is mainly because such padlocks are likely to protrude below the Shield.
Immediate bolt cutter protection.
Shields fit any Multi-Latch body style and are compatible with all catches except our special order sliding catches. To install a Shield simply remove all padlock pins, slide the Shield over the lock body and replace all the padlock pins and padlocks. Multi-Latch Shields are manufactured from stainless steel.

Multi-latch for Barrier Access
Multi-Latches can be installed onto existing or new vehicle barriers of swinging, rising or chain style. In these installations the Multi-Latch becomes both the locking device and the beam keeper.
When professionally installed onto steel or timber vehicle barriers Multi-Latches can convert any existing barrier structure into a shared access portal.
CHAIN BARRIERS
Chain barriers such as those used in car parks and forestry access roads can also be adapted to Multiple access by installing a chain or tubular Multi-Latch (dependent on the post style) to the post and joining the existing chain to the newly installed Multi-Latches chain catch using a U-shackle (the shackle must be welded shut) it is also a good idea to trim the existing chain to length.
RISING OR COUNTER-WEIGHTED BARRIERS
Installation of Multi-Latches on rising barriers is dependent on the barrier design but the basic objective is to restrict the barrier from lifting when in the locked position. The ideal solution is to trim the post down and install the Multi-Latch horizontally on the top of the post so that the body runs parallel with the beam. The catch can now be installed onto the underside of the beam so that it enters the front catch hole from above, a rubber block fitted around the base of the catch block helps cushion the drop. However, many rising beams are quite flexible CHS (tubular or pipe) steel, designed to drop into a V shaped receiver. With this style of beam the above installation is likely to be unsuccessful and the use of a chain catch is preferred. Basically the Multi-Latch is installed horizontally or vertically onto the post below the v shaped receiver and a chain catch is used on the barrier beam to restrict the beams rise when in a locked position. If you have any questions on how best to install a Multi-Latch to a rising barrier please e-mail Technical Support or ring your nearest office and ask for Technical Sales (the provision of photographs of the barrier in question will help speed up the production of inquiry specific instructions).
SWINGING BARRIERS
The simplest style of barrier to fit a Multi-Latch to is the swinging type. To integrate the Multi-Latch first cut through the striking post just below the barrier beam. This should allow the barrier to swing over the top of the newly cut post. The Multi-Latch body is now mounted vertically onto the striking post with the rear catch hole protruding above the top of the post. The lower lip of the catch hole should be flush with top of the cut post and facing the beam in its closed position. If the post is circular hollow section (tube or pipe) then the longitudinal mounting slot in the back of the lock body should be used in conjunction with two dome head cup square bolts (coach or carriage bolts). Once the body is installed the beam should swing over the top of the post and slam flush with the protruding Multi-Latch. Next the catch is installed. Offer the catch up to the rear catch hole and fit all the padlock pins. Swing the barrier beam into its closed position and clamp the catch to the beam, now remove one padlock pin and swing the beam away from the post. The catch can now be bolted or welded into position. If installing onto steel posts the cut surface should now be made good with zinc based paint and the post should be filled with cement. If installing onto timber barriers shear nuts and large washers should be used during installation and the washers / shear nuts should be counter sunk into the timber to restrict removal.
